1960’s Military spec Cotton Sateen has been reproduced with organic yarns to create faithful reproductions and modified versions of Utility and Jungle uniforms. SS21 continues sustainability efforts by using natural dying processes, organic fabrics, and fibres recycled from waste material.

Entitled ‘Saturday Specials’, CLIPZ reworks the original album into new drum’n’bass dimensions, also featuring a mix from V Recordings founder Jumpin’ Jack Frost, recorded live at London club Fabric. The capsule includes an updated version of XL's classic MA-1 Flight Jacket with intricate free-hand embroideries, as well as a t-shirt designed by British painter and sculptor Toby Ziegler, which reworks his artwork of the Saturday Specials album. Referencing WWII Sukajan jackets – a classic souvenir of the wondering soldier – the Ascending Dragon embroideries take inspiration from the traditional designs of New Mexican Chimayo woven textiles, as well as other South American artworks. Variations of the embroidery are detailed across Original Snopants, Souvenir Jackets, Ballistic Vests and Silk Shirts. Fabrics include a vegetable dyed eco twill made in Japan from recovered cotton waste, as well as an eco-conscious blend of cotton and lyocell – where sustainable wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibres whilst also recycling the water used in the process. maharishi interprets the dragon as representing man’s spiritual quest for wisdom. A mythological creature, the dragon takes the form of a snake or serpent with wings. The snake, with its entire body bound to the Earth, is most symbolic of man on Earth. Once that serpent is given wings, it comes to represent man in flight on his spiritual quest.

Through the modification of MA-1 bombers, utility vests and M65 cargo pants, garments experiment with the ways in which military uniforms – designed to avoid any individualism – are customised and humanised by indigenous peoples.

Artworks pay respect to the Montagnard mountain tribes of the Vietnamese Highlands, and their Story Cloths artworks – intricate tapestries that depict the violent events inflicted upon the Hmong people during the Vietnam War.
