Autumn/Winter 2021 Technical Edit
In the latest editorial feature Maharishi explores the ancient valleys of the Mendip Hills, highlighting some of AW21's technical and performance styles. Reinforcing the Maharishi ethos of 'respect nature, utilise technology' garments employ a range of fabrics that combine technical properties with natural and eco-conscious production processes. Key fabrics include a vegetable-dyed micro-ripstop nylon by Japanese heritage mill Komatsu. Recycled from waste yarn, the textile is water-resistant and quick-drying to offer protection from the elements whilst remaining lightweight and breathable. Sherpa fleece garments are constructed using yarn made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials, while other styles feature insulated quilting with synthetic fill to provide additional warmth in cooler climates. — Photographer: Rory Griffin Stylist: Oisin Ruben Models: Oisin & Celine

MAHAPATCHCO. ENTERTAINERS TOUR
MAHAPATCHCO. — a sister company to the Maha Tailor Shop — explores the Entertainer and Tour Jackets worn during the Vietnam War era. To boost the morale of troops during wartime, entertainers such as musicians, actors, and comedians would go on tour visiting military barracks — collecting embroidered patches as souvenirs as they travelled, and adding a patch for each stop on the tour. Locally embroidered patches would be commissioned by proud unit commanders, often enlarged to double or triple their usual size, so that they could be seen on stage from afar. For Spring Summer 2021, MAHAPATCHO. has produced a number of Tour Jackets featuring collaborative patches from Hyperdub, Myoshka, Kay One, Teach, Todd James, OJAS, Gasr, Andy Warhol and XL Recordings, as well as rare original patches from U.S. Navy Riverine units, and authentic 60s anti-war patches. Silhouettes include a classic MA-1 Flight Jacket modified with a kimono collar, a Utility Smock based on a 1940's oversmock reconstructed in crushed hemp, and a poncho inspired by the capes worn by military nurses. DPM: ARVN/Purples
Produced within a series for the Maha Tailor Shop, DPM: ARVN – also known as ‘Purples’, ‘Bulletproofs’ or ‘Bloodcake’ – is a rare camouflage originally worn by paratroopers of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in 1968, and then adopted by some of the U.S. Special Forces whilst they acted as advisors to the ARVN.U.S. uniforms were re-made in the Vietnamese pattern in local factories or tailor shops – in part because this helped show some solidarity with the ARVN, and in part because of the popularity of the pattern itself during the 1960s.
